Loneliness: A Drive to Adventure
Work…
Work…
Work…
Social life is in jeopardy for most Filipino common laborers as work has become central to their lives. Providing for the household is the number one priority for most workers, forgetting one’s leisure just to save up and put food on the table. Hence, why working people tend to feel lonely—no social life and not even a short time to go out and enjoy life.
But the burden of loneliness—seeing it through a different lens—is not as bad as it seems.
Let us consider the first thing about loneliness: it is a state of mind or a circumstance where one is all alone, left to wander to one's thoughts. By its definition, being lonely is truly scary, for we all know ‘no man is an island’. Being lonely is a dread when one is used to being with companions or a partner. Sometimes, to be alone is like being in a darkness where hope fades and the mind eats its own. That is the frightening side of being lonely.
Yet, being alone is also a chance to think—a moment to set yourself on an adventure.
Wanderlust means the urge to go on an adventure, or to seek an adventure. We all have that in us, whether you are young or old, man or woman, wanderlust is buried deep within us, waiting to rise when needed. This sensation is more vivid when one is alone and stuck inside the four corners of their office space. Other factors might trigger but this urge for a new adventure is one of the many reasons employees tend to leave without notice. Too Casual indeed but this suppressed emotion can make someone long for at least a little outside adventure.
Note that the sense of wanderlust is not an excuse to be informal to your employers and always request a vacation. Instead, always be responsible with your attendance and excuses.
Being lonely is not always a gloomy thing after all. To be alone is a way for one to breathe and reflect; to slow down in life, and to see life not as a tragedy but as a journey worthwhile.
Even walking to work is already a wanderlust. As you walk down the imperfect sidewalks, hearing the noise and journeying under the heat, slowing down your pace helps you see the beauty in chaos. The burden somehow lessens and you’ll see different faces and somewhat understand their stories without even telling you.
Even when you go to far places, like out of town or out of the country alone—the thought seems unnerving but it is also the best way of teaching yourself to be teachable again. Going to your destination far from your comfort zone, whether purely for leisure or work, is an experience best kept for life especially when good lessons are entailed.
To journey alone is not always blues and gloom but a way of contemplation—of learning oneself even more without biases.
